Comedy Central's duo of fake news programs, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," long ago cemented its place in the real news cycle. Despite their popularity, particularly among young people ages 18 to 34, the two shows have had relatively little competition besides each other – Fox News's attempt at a right-wing counterpart, "The 1/2 Hour NewsHour," quickly fizzled in 2007. But the latest player to join the game might just make a contest of things. On Friday evening, The Onion will launch "The Onion News Network" on IFC.
