The Yankees agreed to terms with veteran outfielder Raul Ibanez on a one-year, $1.1 million contract, plus incentives, to be a left-handed designated hitter and back-up outfielder. The deal was expected to be announced by the Yankees once Ibanez passed his physical.
Ibanez, who turns 40 on June 2, had been discussing the general parameters of a deal with the Yankees for weeks, but Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman was unable to commit to him until the A.J. Burnett trade was finalized, and that happened on Sunday.
