Detroit's Justin Verlander and San Francisco's Matt Cain will be the starting pitchers in Tuesday's All-Star game in Kansas City.
The choice of Cain (9-3, 2.62 ERA) as the National Leaguestarter has raised some eyebrows, with many fans wondering why he was given the nod over the New York Mets' R.A. Dickey (12-1, 2.40 ERA).
National League Manager Tony La Russa said last week that he may not start knuckleballer Dickey because of the difficulty the floating pitch causes catchers who aren't used to handling it. Cain's teammate Buster Posey is the NL's starting catcher.
