Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) went over the line in accusing Mitt Romney of not paying taxes in a 10-year span. Reid didn’t name a source, just a Bain investor and others – and that’s not good enough. This is sinking into the same mud as the birthers who swear Obama was not born on U.S. soil, or those rabid swift boaters who insisted John Kerry’s medals were undeserved.

Sometimes the truth isn’t enough to satisfy the haters. Obama released his long-form birth certificate.Kerry’s exemplary service in Vietnam is a matter of government record.

Unfortunately, Romney has no high ground of his own. His response to Reid to “put up or shut up” is laughable.

Wrong, Mr. Romney. When you run for the highest office, it is YOU who must put up or shut up.
