Conservative firebrand Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) warned Thursday that overturning North Carolina’s controversial bathroom law would make it easier for sex offenders to harass young children.
During one of his regular extended floor speeches after the House finished its legislative work for the week, Gohmert predicted that sexual predators would take advantage of a policy allowing transgender people to use the bathrooms of their choice.
“There will be people that do that,” Gohmert said. “Why not let the transgender, LGBT,Q,R,S,T — whatever the initials are — let them have their activities where they don’t impose upon the privacy of someone who wants to go to the restroom or shower without someone from the opposite sex being there with them.”
Gohmert singled out Target, which this week said that it will allow transgender people to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identities.
